Verbo believes in supporting people in a holistic manner that includes the mind, body, spirit and social well-being. Our programs exemplify this belief and lead people and our community to THRIVE.
Need some “me-time” while your child is being tutored?
This free ESL class is designed for moms who want to learn English while their children are in after-school tutoring sessions.
In this class, you will:
- Improve your English skills in a relaxed and supportive environment
- Learn practical English for everyday situations
- Meet other moms and make new friends
Classes meet Tuesdays & Thursdays at Verbo
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM (coincides with children’s tutoring hours)
Beginner to Intermediate English speakers
Verbo and Second Harvest Food bank have been partners for 15 years to distribute food to under resourced families on the Peninsula. Three times a week Verbo opens its doors to provide food boxes to about 1000 people. Often, this much needed resource is an opportunity to build awareness of Verbo’s programs, and an entry point for people to access other services that Verbo provides to the community of North Fair Oaks.
Distribution schedule
Wednesdays 12:00 to 1:30 pm
Wednesdays 8:30 to 9:00 pm
Fridays 6:00 to 7:30 pm
Distribution times are subject to change based on food availability from our partners.
Home groups are small groups of adult community members who gather on a regular basis in private homes. They are a welcoming place to experience the love and community of Christ, for people to connect with other believers and grow in faith.
Home groups welcome new members where they will be able to:
- Build meaningful friendships
- Grow in knowledge of the Bible and in faith
- Get support
- Serve others
Verbo hosts league soccer games within its building for people aged 15 and up. This program started as a way for Verbo to bring in extra income to pay for rent, and has become an excellent way to provide recreation as well as a source of community to anyone who loves soccer. Daily soccer games at Verbo provide a place for families to enjoy time together, and for people to support one another.
League games take place nightly, seven days a week, from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am
Verbo’s Kids’ Program is a welcoming, safe and fun place for children of all ages to learn about Jesus and grow in their faith with other kids their age. Our volunteer staff is passionate about working with children and is committed to providing them with a positive and enriching experience as they help children to learn and get to know Jesus.
Young people who come to Verbo’s Kids’ Program are:
- Welcomed by caring adults
- Joined by kids their age so friendships grow
- Involved in a variety of activities
- Encouraged to develop a love for God
The Kids’ Program meets every Sunday at 10:00 am in four classes:
Nursery: Toddlers through pre-school
Kindergarten through first grade
Second and Third grade
Fourth and Fifth grade
The Men’s Group at Verbo is a great place for the men in the community to gather for support, encouragement, and inspiration. Meeting bi-monthly, this community is committed to encouraging men to grow in their faith and live out their God-given purpose.
Men interested in participating in the Men’s Group can expect to experience:
- A safe space for men to be themselves
- An opportunity to grow in one’s faith by studying the Bible with others
- Support for others through life’s challenges
- Trusting relationships with other men, building lifelong friendships
Verbo community seniors over 65 meet once a month to share a meal. This gathering provides people in this age group a number of benefits, including:
- Social interaction
- Reduced isolation
- Improved mental health through a sense of purpose and belonging
Verbo’s teen programs are designed for youth ages 12 to 21. Activities provide youth development through recreation, social engagement, prevention, intervention, education and spiritual development.
Teen Program Gatherings
Junior High students meet Sundays at 10:00 am at Verbo
High School students meet Fridays at 7:30 pm at the leaders’ home in Redwood City.
All Youth meet once a month on Saturdays at 7:30 pm at Verbo
Many young students struggle with subjects that don’t come easily, which can become a barrier to moving forward. Verbo, in partnership with Redeemer Lutheran church in Redwood City, offers free tutoring to elementary school students on site at Verbo. Volunteers help students progress academically and emotionally. With caring, one-on-one tutoring, children are encouraged and given confidence to succeed.
At this time we serve 22 students aged 5 to 10,
with the help of 26 tutors. There is a waiting list of students. With more tutors we will be able to serve more children.
Tutoring Hours
Tuesdays 4:00 to 6:00 pm
Thursdays 4:00 to 6:00 pm
Verbo has offered the dance team to girls in North Fair Oaks for almost 25 years. Dance team coaches are members of the church who are skilled at teaching dancers and enjoy leading a group of girls to have fun together.
Girls ages of 10 to 18 experience:
- A dedicated group of young women who are passionate about their faith and their dance
- The lesson and payoff of diligence, hard work and bringing their best to a team of like-minded people.
- A way to live out their Christian character, becoming role models for other young people
- Dance as a healthy outlet to grow as people and have fun as they praise God and share His love with others
The Dance Team rehearses every other Friday at Verbo at 6:00 pm. They perform during worship every other Sunday, and at other events like the Multicultural Festival as needed.
Verbo’s Women’s Group is a fun and meaningful way for women in the community to connect with other women, no matter their Bible knowledge or faith journeys. Meetings take place bi-monthly to study the Bible, pray for each other, and enjoy each other’s company.
Open to all women in the community, participants experience:
- A supportive community in which to build lasting friendships
- Deepening faith
- Fun activities such as potlucks, game nights, and retreats
Verbo’s worship team plays an important role in leading the congregation in worship whenever they gather, on Sundays and during the week. Worship is a way that Christians express their love and adoration for God, bringing the congregation together as a community to grow in their faith.
Worship Team members:
- Help to create a welcoming and worshipful atmosphere for everyone
- Play and sing contemporary Christian music
- Pray for the congregation and for the world
- Read scripture passages
- Lead the congregation in responsive readings
- Present the truth of the Gospel through other creative expressions like dance.
- Use their gifts behind the scenes to support the worship team
- Bring their creative arts to worship, including creating banners, decorations, or PowerPoint slides with music lyrics to enhance worship for all
- Share their passion and talents for worshiping God with others
Verbo hosts a time for young adults, 19 to 30, to get together. Led by young adult leaders, this group is an intentional, vibrant and welcoming community that:
- Enables young adults to explore their faith and spirituality
- Connects people and encourages friendships with others
- Provides a variety of activities and events, such as Bible study, small groups, worship services, retreats, social events, and community service projects
- Gives young adults space to deepen relationships with God, discern their vocational next steps, and live out their faith in the world

Programs to Come (Dates to be Announced)
Verbo’s annual six-week financial workshop teaches people financial concepts and skills. Topics usually include budgeting, saving, investing, credit, and debt.
Verbo’s marriage classes are educational programs that teach couples the skills and knowledge they need to have a strong and lasting marriage based on Christian values. They cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Communication: Communicate effectively with each other to build trust and resolve conflict.
- Conflict resolution: Deal with disagreements in a positive way, without resorting to anger or violence.
- Intimacy: Connect with each other physically and emotionally to maintain a healthy sex life and emotional bond.
- Parenting: Raise children together in a way that is consistent with Christian beliefs.
- Forgiveness: Learn how to forgive each other for mistakes to move forward and build a stronger relationship.
- Commitment: Reaffirm commitment to each other in good times and bad.
WITH THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
Verbo partners with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department on its Community Alliance to Revitalize Our Neighborhoods (CARON).
One of CARON’s programs is the Parenting Academy, a 10-week certified program which empowers parents of teenagers with positive parenting tools, while building encouraging relationships with their kids.
Parenting classes are educational programs that teach parents the skills and knowledge they need to effectively raise their children. They cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Child development: Understand the physical, emotional, and social stages of child development, to set realistic expectations for children’s behavior.
- Discipline: Set limits and consequences in a fair and consistent way, without resorting to physical punishment.
- Communication: Communicate clearly with children to build understanding, trust, and to resolve conflicts.
- Problem-solving: Teach children how to solve problems on their own so they can become independent and self-reliant.
- Positive reinforcement: Use praise and rewards to encourage good behavior.
- Anger management: Learn to control anger to enable response to children’s misbehavior in a calm and constructive way.
- Relationship building. Build and restore broken relationships.
